Managing AI and data science infrastructure is resource-intense because resources continually need upgrades and patching for security and compliance. And mission-critical use cases will require access to the most valuable or sensitive data, wherever it resides — on-premises or in hybrid and multiple clouds. Finally, scaling up infrastructure in an uncontrolled, ad hoc way is always costly and must be avoided. These challenges can complicate AI infrastructure management for IT teams, and delay innovation.

Fully managed by Domino, Domino Cloud delivers fast, secure, and reliable access to all of Domino while minimizing the need for IT to provision, update, and maintain software and infrastructure. Domino applies software upgrades in real-time, so data science teams always have the latest version of Domino. And Domino’s secure and compliant SaaS works on any infrastructure — on-premises, hybrid, multicloud — so data scientists can securely access any data, without moving it. This flexible solution can also instantly scale up or down in the cloud, reducing costs while adapting to your evolving business needs.

Domino Cloud’s unique architecture also makes it the simplest, safest, and fastest way to onboard enterprises. There is no need for planned downtime or unpredictable delays from lift and shift cloud migrations, which require moving massive amounts of data to and from the cloud. Instead of taking two weeks to transfer datasets, blobs, and logs, the cutover to Domino Cloud happens instantly, with minimal user disruption — thanks to Domino Nexus.

Faster SaaS onboarding and greater flexibility with Domino Nexus

Typically, the size of the transfer required to move to Domino Cloud can be anywhere from a few gigabytes to multiple petabytes, and millions of individual objects. This makes planning a migration less unpredictable for IT managers. For example, many assume that a single-threaded transfer of 13Gb of small files (8,000,000 objects) can take almost 40 hours to complete. By leveraging Domino Nexus, our hybrid/multicloud solution, to migrate you to Domino Cloud, we can significantly reduce the amount of time spent transferring data by simply re-using your existing storage mechanisms. This not only avoids data movements and saves unnecessary data transfer fees, it also saves time and preserves data locality for compliance.

In addition, User Acceptance Testing (UAT) is a crucial phase in any SaaS migration, and helps identify any issues and gather feedback, so software meets end-user expectations and IT requirements. By “skipping” the data transfer phase, Domino can start UAT straight away without impacting your current live, production version of Domino. Domino will work with you to build a UAT plan that covers all the bases and ensure a smooth SaaS transition. Once the UAT is completed, we can schedule a date where Domino will stop access to the old system and use the new system as production.

Shrink transfer time with Domino Nexus

Domino manages your migration to Domino Cloud in three easy steps:

  1. Create a new EKS cluster running in an existing VPC, which would allow us to:
    • Utilize network connectivity already created to external data sources.
    • Re-use EFS, which is tied to a VPC.
  2. Re-use existing buckets:
    • Set up cross-account IAM permissions to allow the SaaS platform to connect to the existing buckets, meaning we do not need to wait for the buckets to transfer to the SaaS AWS account.
  3. Set up bucket replication:
    • Set up cross-account bucket replication to the SaaS AWS account so that the buckets can reside here once ready.
