Journey on AI & Model Development Lifecycle Enablement

UBS shares the strategic and technical journey behind RiskLab, their enterprise-wide AI and model development platform built on Domino. Ilhami Gorgun and team illustrate how they transformed model risk management by embedding quants, model validators, and technologists into a unified development and governance environment.

RiskLab enabled self-service access to production data for modelers, standardized cloud migration across risk models, and accelerated validation cycles. With growing adoption across risk, compliance, investment banking, and wealth management, RiskLab now serves as UBS's strategic AI/ML platform—supporting use cases ranging from code optimization and GenAI evaluations to cost savings and regulatory compliance.

Key Takeaways:

1. RiskLab is an AI Operating System for Risk Modeling
UBS used Domino to unify developers and validators, driving collaboration and standardization across the model lifecycle.
2. GenAI and ML Drive Efficiency Gains
LLMs used for compliance and validation reduced manual overhead—while remaining auditable and efficient.
3. Governance must be Embedded, Not an Afterthought
UBS created a "governance-by-default" framework that satisfies regulators while enabling innovation at scale.
